Field Research: Empowering Youth Workers to Drive Climate Action
As part of the Empowering Youth Workers to Drive Climate Action project, several activities were conducted in Romania to engage youth workers and young people in environmental awareness and climate action. These activities included workshops during Green Week 2024 and discussions with youth workers in our comunity.
Key Activities:
- Green Week Workshops: We conducted two workshops at Ferdinand I High School in Curtea de Argeș, where students from 10th and 11th grade actively discussed climate issues and explored ways they could contribute to environmental protection in their community. The students expressed interest to involve and learn more about sustainable actions but highlighted the need for clearer guidance on how to get involved.
- Focus Group Discussions with Youth Workers: Youth workers from our local community participated in focus groups to discuss the challenges and opportunities they face when promoting climate action. They shared insightful experiences about how non-formal education can drive real change, even in the face of limited resources.
Key Insights:
- Young people are eager to participate in environmental projects but often lack proper guidance and tools.
- Hands-on, practical activities such as clean-up initiatives and conservation efforts are seen as more effective in engaging youth than traditional classroom-based methods.
- Youth workers emphasized the need for continuous support, including training and resources, to lead impactful climate-related programs.
